What is the main message of Joshua 1:9? The scripture reads "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (NIV) 

To understand the full context of the main message of Joshua 1:9, we must read before and after so we can be certain we understand exactly what the meaning is. Joshua was commanded by God to lead the nation of Israel into the Promise Land. There would be many trials  and tribulations along the way. This will not be an easy task. To inspire and encourage Joshua God makes him this promise. 

No matter what he faces God reminds him of this:

  • I will be with you - be strong & courageous.
  • Don't be afraid - be strong & courageous.
  • Don't be discouraged - be strong & courageous.

God called him to not only lead his people into the Promise Land but to do it boldly but reminded him that "I will be with you." 

This applies to us in our every day life. Whatever God calls us to do he gives us this verse to do his will boldly and He will be with us - so be strong & courageous in all that you do. There is no need for fear or being discouraged because God will be with us.
