The Monday-Saturday Christian

God put this topic on my heart a while back and I’ve been digging into what he means by it. On the surface it’s obvious but I always want to be certain it’s not my idea but his. I’d never want to share anything that is my own thinking but rather be led by the spirit cause I can mess things up easily when done by myself.

Going to church on Sunday is GREAT and necessary. We need that time to fellowship with other believers, worship, and get filled up with the message. It is very important and I am not trying to say church doesn’t matter because that’s far from the truth. However, going to church is NOT enough.

Now, Here me out before you disagree.

Have you ever noticed when you’re in church and the sermon was one of those that hit you deep down in your soul and  it makes you think or even gets you excited enough to give you the drive to really want to apply it to your life?  Then you leave church and 20 minutes later someone cuts you off in traffic, or your kids wont stop screaming at one another in the back seat or you and your spouse have a disagreement, that sermon is gone. Sure you may think about it a time or two during the week but life happened and the chaos of the world gets you off track. Sound familiar?

You want to know why? Because although the church gives you the tools for your Christian walk, you have to be the one that follows through. You can’t have a true relationship with Jesus by only hearing the sermon on Sunday. You have to dig into the word on your own, that’s how we talk to him, how we hear from him, there’s no other way to build that intimate relationship with the Lord to where we truly know him. The Bible is the answer to everything and getting into the word will bring your life, to life!

“The Bible is the answer to everything and getting into the word will bring your life, to life!”

Think of it this way, you feed yourself with food daily otherwise you’ll starve to death. You water your plants so they will grow. As a Christians, we have to feed ourselves daily with the word so we can grow, otherwise we will starve then before we know it, Jesus isn’t the priority anymore because we’re trying to maneuver the chaos of this world.

Going to church on Sunday won’t get you into heaven, but a relationship with Jesus will. That’s why Monday through Saturday is extremely important.

There is a difference in knowing who Jesus is versus knowing him on a personal level. When I prayed on this topic he led me to Matthew 7:22-23, in which Jesus says “Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’”

Just because people know of Jesus and go to church because it’s just what you’re supposed to do doesn’t mean you know him on a personal level. Then Jesus continues in verse 24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” He didn’t stop there he said in verse 26  “But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.”

When Jesus repeats himself I feel like it’s pretty important. So my point of The Monday-Saturday Christian is although it begins on Sunday at church, the most important time is during the week which is when we apply it to our lives. Even 10 minutes in the word per day, listening to Christian music on the way to work and talking to him throughout the day will grow that relationship.

The church gives us the tools to carry out the Christian walk but we have to open the book and build the relationship with Jesus because that’s the only way into heaven. Church won’t get you to heaven. Knowing Jesus does.

When judgment day comes, there won’t be an option to plead our case to him. We either know him or we don’t. Remember, church on Sunday is important but Monday through Saturday is even more important, that’s the time you’re growing and building your relationship with him.

How about you? Do you know of him or do you know him and do you have a relationship with him? We all need a savior and that savior is Jesus.

***** If you are reading this and you feel like maybe you don’t know him in this kind of way and you want to but aren’t sure where to start, that’s ok! Begin by praying and asking him to help you, open your Bible and pick a place to start. Don’t just read it like a book, go slowly even if it’s only a verse or two and break it down. (I highly recommend a study Bible- it explains some verses to help better understand them- it’s a great tool!) The more you have this quiet time with him you’ll begin to know exactly when the spirit is speaking to you. I am in the process of writing another blog on studying the Bible and how to break down scripture to get to the true meaning so verses won’t get twisted. It becomes something you look forward to. If you need someone to talk to and are unsure about anything feel free to reach out to me or your pastor or anyone that you know has a strong relationship with the Lord. If I can’t answer your question, I’ll find out the answer by contacting people I reach out to when I don’t understand something. We all have to start somewhere, the important thing is just to start. Jesus is waiting on you.
